The Carte Blanche Project is a group exhibition by Chelsea MA Textile students. Every participating student has been given a white dress and they need to upcycle/recycle the dress into something completely different. Showing different ways of reusing fabrics.
For this project I decided to take Table Top Fun from a different perspective. I would like to incorporate the fabric into furniture. I started by finding a table that needed to come back to life.
The first step was to strip the paint off the table by applying a paint remover and a using a knife to scrape it off(because that's all that I had). It was quite a slow processes but very satisfactory. The second step was to sand it down with a sander to bring it back to its natural state, so that I would be able to give it a new coat of paint. The third step was to cut the pieces to be placed on the top and bottom part of the table. This is where the Table Top Fun will be placed.
The table: step 1, 2 & 3.
These are some ideas for the surfaces:
The surface is inspired by pixels. The fabric is most likely to be digitally printed but it might be hand dyed or screen printed. More experiments to come soon...
